A Kentucky media company has added to its holdings in North Carolina by buying newspapers across the state. Paxton Media Group, based out of Paducah, Kentucky, acquired six North Carolina newspapers from Gannett Co. Inc. (NYSE: GCI). Paxton has purchased The Courier-Tribune of Asheboro; Times-News of Burlington; and The Dispatch of Lexington. It also acquired the Jacksonville Daily News, Kinston Free Press and New Bern Sun Journal in the transaction. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Paxton, a 125-year-old family-owned media company, owns more than 100 newspapers across the Midwest and Southeast.
